Ugadi Gudipawa Greetings

Sasi (my roomie) has invited me to his hometown on occasion of Ugadi. Me and my travel buddy Nitant are leaving for his hometown late evening. We have also planned to visit Vijaywada and nearby places  over the weekend. I tried to push everyone to make this a “bike” trip, but it didn’t work. Atleast I am getting a good break of two days. Will be posting the details of the trip on Monday, until then happy weekend everyone…

My neighbor has kept a stick with a pot on top called gudi celebrating gudi padwa at her doorstep. But she also has kept some food items like roti and chawal in a plate right beside the stick with the green cloth. why do people keep food outside their door step? is it part of the ritual?

Hi, I spoke to my TL regarding the significance of Gudipadwa, and her is what he said.

The stick (decorated pole) with the pot (normally brass or silver) personifies victory and joy. The Marathas came back victorious from their war expeditions on this day, gudi is put in their remembrance.

They normally prepare religious offerings made up of neem leaves and jaggery, the bitter and sweet tastes imply that one must bear sorrow and joy in life. He too was not sure why food was kept outside :)
